2024 TGRA Scholarship Series Kicks off at Sydney Motorsport Park in April

May 1, 2024

The TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Australia (TGRA) Scholarship Series is back in 2024 to support and help nurture the next generation of Australian motorsport champions, following a highly successful debut season in 2023.

The TGRA Scholarship Series provides an opportunity for young aspiring professional drivers to hone their circuit driving skills in a safe and exciting environment, behind the wheel of a Toyota 86 race car.

Drivers and teams will have the chance to test their mettle across five rounds over the course of the year, starting with the standalone event at Sydney Motorsport Park on April 14 which coincides with the season launch of the TGRA GR CUP (formerly TGRA 86 Series).

The Scholarship Series then travels across the country with events at the South Australian Motorsport Series at The Bend Motorsport Park in late May, followed by a trip to the Phillip Island GP Circuit for the Phillip Island Super Sprint in June and the SpeedSeries at the Queensland Raceway in early August.

The final round will take place at Sandown Raceway in August as part of the Victorian State Racing Series.

Following the conclusion of the racing rounds five drivers will be selected to participate in  the Scholarship Series Evaluation Day to be held at the Norwell Motorplex in Queensland in September.

Selected candidates will participate in a one-day evaluation event where they will undergo a series of tests across a number of disciplines, with the winner receiving a fully funded drive in the TGRA GR CUP round at the legendary Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst.

Toyota Australia Chief Marketing Officer Vin Naidoo said the TGRA Scholarship Series provided a fantastic opportunity for up-and-coming race drivers to learn and develop in an accessible setting.

“The fantastic response we received from the inaugural TGRA Scholarship Series in 2023 made it an easy decision to bring this grassroots competition back for the 2024 season, which has received massive interest from potential competitors,” Mr Naidoo said.

“The accessibility of the TGRA Scholarship Series makes it the perfect entry point to circuit racing for those looking to graduate from go-karts or wanting to hone their skills in hard-fought, competitive racing.

“We wish the best of luck to the competitors in the 2024 season, one of which will win the opportunity to race the new-generation GR86 race car at Mount Panorama – a circuit most Aussie motorsport fans can only dream of competing at.”
