Bold exterior styling

Front on, its rectangular grille presents an assertive expression, daring you to look it square in the eye. While on the side, high windows and large, flat door panels create the distinctive proportions of its eye-catching boxy profile - setting up Rukus' bold and confident stance. But it's not all about shape. Rukus' distinctive look is accentuated by stylish design cues including wide-set projector headlamps, high contrast tail lamps and LED indicator lights on the outside mirrors.

Rukus stays true to its bold and edgy design with 10-spoke, 16-inch alloy wheels that add a distinctly sporty touch to Rukus' confident stance.

Spine-tingling performance

Looks can be deceiving. It may look small, but under the bonnet is enough power to put boring to the sword. Rukus performance is truly outstanding. It's one spirited little mover with a lively driving experience that's set to leave the competition standing. Rukus' American sibling, the Scion xB, made quite a name for itself with its thrilling driving experience. Its performance and power ensured it always punched above its weight, making it a huge hit among drivers in big cities across the US. And now Rukus is gearing up to do the same in Australia with something that's right out of the box.

Sequential shift

An automatic that drives like a manual. Rukus puts a bit of thrill into your everyday drive with its four-speed automatic transmission, which shifts up and down crisply and seamlessly. Its sequential shift gives you manual-like control of gear changes, enabling you to move up and down gears with lightning speed. It's what helps create Rukus' spirited driving experience. The Super ECT intelligent four-speed automatic transmission gives you uphill/downhill shift control to help minimise gear changes when driving on winding or hilly roads. It also enhances your ride by providing engine braking during downhill driving which reduces the need for you to brake. Driving Rukus gives you the thrill of driving a manual when you want and the ease of an automatic when you don't.

2.4 Litre VVT-i Engine - 123kW of power

This city slicker packs a surprising punch. In fact, it has no right to go so well and effortlessly outclasses most other small cars. Drawing its power from an uncompromising 2.4-litre four-cylinder VVT-i engine, it delivers a pulsating 123kW of pure thrill. This means Rukus has more than enough grunt to provide exceptional acceleration and heaps of torque to conquer hills with ease. At the heart of Rukus is an engine that uses Toyota's Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence (VVT-i) and uses a double overhead cam and 16 valves to optimise the airflow through the engine, delivering more power and better fuel economy. With an engine of this calibre, you'll not only stand out from the crowd - you'll leave them standing.

Technology

Smart Entry – Keyless entry

Forget about fumbling around for keys. Electronic sensors and transmitters recognise you and prepare your car for automatic unlocking. So all you need to do is grab the door handle and Smart Entry unlocks the door for you.

Smart Start - Push-button start

Once you're inside, you can still forget about your keys. With the advanced Smart Start feature all you have to do is put your foot on the brake and push the start button to start the car. Simple. Smart Entry and Smart Start is the type of car technology you expect to find in a luxury car. But that's not the case with Rukus. You'll find both standard on all Builds.

Single touch power windows

Need some air? Power your windows up or down with a single touch with Rukus' innovative one-touch power windows. You can also automatically lock the passenger windows, which is useful when you're carrying kids (or rowdy mates) in the back.

SAFETY

Stand out, stay safe

Rukus is uncompromising when it comes to safety. It's loaded with world-class safety features to keep you and your passengers safe. Rukus safety equipment includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC), Active Braking with intelligence (AB-i) incorporating Anti-skid Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA) and a suite of driver and passenger airbags to cushion you in the event of an accident.

World-class brake system

Rukus has plenty of force to pull you up in a hurry with Active Braking with intelligence (AB-i) incorporating Anti-skid Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).

Anti skid braking system (ABS)

The anti-skid braking system on the Rukus automatically controls the brakes and helps prevent your wheels from locking up when you hit the brakes hard during an emergency stop. This helps you maintain control of the steering, helping you to avoid an accident. ABS constantly monitors the wheels, and if it detects that the wheels are beginning to lock, it adjusts the braking pressure to free the lock-up. This improves steering control during emergency braking and helps the brakes achieve optimum braking performance.

Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD)

This sophisticated brake system minimises stopping distances by shifting braking pressure to the wheels with the most grip. It senses the weight transfer of the vehicle when the brakes are applied, and automatically adjusts pressure distribution to each of the brakes accordingly. So if you’re carrying a heavy load in the back and need to stop quickly, the brake system senses the extra weight in the rear of the car and applies more braking to the rear wheels. Conversely, if more of the weight is in the front of the car, more braking force is applied to the front wheels EBD also controls the brake forces between the left and right wheels when brakes are applied while cornering to improve braking performance.

Uncompromising practicality

With Rukus, there's no compromise on practicality. In fact, it doesn't even know what compromise means. Designed to suit your life, Rukus is loaded with space and versatility you'd expect to find in a much larger car. So when you sit inside, you'll forget it's a small car.

Cavernous boot space

Luggage space is no longer at a premium with Rukus. Behind the back seat there's 310-litre boot capacity, ready to carry whatever your life demands. But even in the boot there's more storage than meets the eye. Lift up the floor and you'll find a nifty storage space. Just one example of Rukus' incredible versatility.

Sits five, fits heaps

Never worry about cramming your mates in the back seats again. The seating inside Rukus is designed for maximum passenger comfort with plenty of headroom and legroom to comfortably seat five adults. You might not have kids yet, but there’s more than enough room for you and your mates. And even with five people packed in, there's still heaps of room to carry cargo.

60:40 Split fold rear seat

The flexibility of a 60:40 split fold rear seat takes your cargo space to another level. The rear seats can easily be folded away flat without removing the headrests giving you a huge 1331 litres of cargo space. It's perfect for trips away or times when you just need that extra bit of space.

Travel in comfort with cruise control

Rukus comes with cruise control as a standard feature on all Builds. Cruise control makes it easy to maintain a constant speed on long road trips, making your trip all the more comfortable and economical. With cruise control once you’ve reached your cruising speed, you can take your foot off the pedal yet still maintain the desired speed.

Smart Entry & Start*

Rukus comes with keyless entry and a push button start Quick and convenient, the Smart Entry & Start system means if you have the key fob in your pocket or bag, you just need to touch a front handle to unlock the doors and press a button on the dash to start the car.

Enhanced passenger comfort

For driving comfort that's a cut about the conventional. Your driver and front-passenger seats are fully adjustable. Designed for comfort and support, there's also height adjustment functionality included on your driver's seat as well as funky tilt and telescope adjustments to the steering wheel. The heating, ventilation and air conditioning system is designed to keep you and your passengers comfortable whatever the weather outside. You can also recirculate the air within the cabin to bolster the speed of the air conditioning cooling in hot weather and keep out dust and bad smells. An edgy yet practical alternative to more-traditional small cars, Rukus is anything but boring!
