National Tree Day

Torque Toyota gets its hands dirty for National Tree Day

In the lead up to Schools’ Tree Day on July 25, Torque Toyota is supporting junior tree planters from Genesis Christian College, Kallangur State School, North Lakes State High, Petrie State Primary, Albany Creek State High School, Dakabin State High School and Living Faith Lutheran Primary School by providing trees.

Planet Ark, together with assistance from Toyota’s National Dealer Network, encourages people from all age groups and communities across the country, to come together and plant trees to repair, revegetate and restore Australia’s landscape.

Dealer Principal, Steve McLaughlin, said that Torque Toyota is proud to be participating in National Tree Day, which is regarded as Australia’s most successful tree planting event.

“Schools’ Tree Day is an excellent way to bring the community together to plant trees and give something back to the environment.  Just one tree has the capacity to absorb more than a tonne of carbon over the course of its lifetime so it’s not hard to make a difference,” he said.

“It’s inspiring to see how much the students care about the environment and how motivated they are in encouraging the grown-ups to do something about it,” he said.

Schools played an important role in last year’s efforts which saw more than 1.2 million tress, shrubs and grasses planted at 3,100 sites around the country.

Toyota’s association with National Tree Day has spanned the past nine years, and reflects its efforts to support the environment and local communities through an event that has both a direct environmental impact and the capacity to influence attitudes.

National Tree Day is just one way that Toyota supports its local communities.  Other initiatives include the Toyota Good for Footy program and the Toyota Community Spirit program which works with organisations including Australian Business Arts Foundation and Conservation Volunteers Australia.
National Tree Day is brought to you by Planet Ark, in association with Toyota. To find out more about National Tree Day go to: www.toyota.com.au/treeday call 1300 88 5000 or visit your local participating.
